The Concept of The Head Of Steam At Railway Stations THE HEAD OF STEAM started out as a great marketing concept, to use derelict or under-utilised space at railway stations to create an 'entertainment venue' with extremely wide appeal, which would be attractive to rail passengers as a station buffet, but which would also be attractive to the local population as a town pub / restaurant / live music venue. We anticipated that people would travel considerable distances to visit us - and they do! As well as being a brilliant pub, with a huge range of products, we have an excellent food service, live music and exhibitions of railway artefacts and advertising antiques - in some of our rooms, you feel that you should be in York's National Railway Museum! We have art exhibitions and we commission art. We even act as a collectors shop, and sell Corgi model toys, model railway items, railway videos and books, as well as our own company branded merchandise. There is likely to be a beer festival on and we have endless promotions, where we give back to our customers. We have a full take-out service and bulk-buying facility, for parties and other occasions. We now have just one outlet which fits this pattern - at Huddersfield station. Music Venues We also have a different marketing concept in our other outlets in Newcastle upon Tyne, Liverpool, Durham and Gateshead. They still have the excellent range of products of our other outlets, but these are heavily music-oriented pubs. Most of these outlets are major live music venues and are recognised for being THE place to see breaking bands, up to mid-range national touring bands. Children are welcome during the daytime in most of our outlets, and most have full facilities for the disabled (please check with individual outlets for more information). Most of our outlets have late licences and are open very late, particularly at weekends. All have room hire facilities for meetings, parties or conferences.
